I had a great vacation (Alaska with dad). What was only 12 days felt like almost a month. I'll have a later post on things I did and saw, with some pictures I took while there, but for now I'm going to share about all the goodies I bought, and the reason why I have no money now.



I bought four shirts for making reconstructions. They were all super cheap. Two have puffins, one has wildflowers, and the wolf one glows in the dark (super excited about this one).


I bought a slew of gifts for friends, books, fabric, beads, soap, and some stones. Most of the stones I collected myself, and some of the reading material was free.


These are the many rocks that I collected. Most of them (the shiny ones) are schists, which are metamorphic rocks. They were found in the Kantishna district within Denali national park. Others are basalt with intruding marble, and the dark one in the middle on the right is glacially striated basalt from Exit glacier. At lower left is a piece of Alaska jade and a chunk of malachite/azurite, from Kennecott (I paid for these).


Chocolates, cookies, teas, jams, soap, candy, and moose turds in back. At center are fat quarters of awesome batik prints of moose and puffins. These will make a couple of squares in my quilt. Super excited about that.

My wildflower field guide and the fat quarters close up. I marked my flower book with locations where I spotted specimens. That was definitely a highlight of the trip.

So now I'm back home in lovely dark, rainy weather, though with lymph nodes the size of golf balls. I have a lot of unpacking and laundry to do, as well as some work in the lab, for the upcoming week. I definitely look forward to spending some time with my sewing machine, and intend to make a stylish backpack for the upcoming school year. I shall post Alaska pictures soon!
